Position title: Communications Specialist

Pronouns: she/her/hers

Education/Work History

I graduated from Augustana College with degrees in Anthropology and English and from UW-Madison with a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology. Although this is my first full-time position, during my graduate studies I was an instructor, a curriculum specialist, and editor and Managing Editor at Edge Effects environmental magazine. Working with Edge Effects rekindled my love of editorial work and gave me experience in communications management.

What projects/initiatives do you specialize in?

My doctoral degree specialization was multispecies and environmental anthropology, with a focus on American equestrian horse showing—not exactly related to engineering or comms!

In both my research and my work, however, I am passionate about accessibility. I enjoy taking academic or specialist knowledge and making it understandable for a broader audience, often blending clear messaging with creative storytelling. I also like applying my artistic skills to visual and branding projects.

Who or what are your creative inspirations?

I am a confessed Anglophile who loves music, literature, and gardening. Attending concerts (from classical to metalcore) is a favorite pastime. I also admire the 19th century British novelists and collect antique botanical illustrations, which inform my own design work: I love to mix timeless design with a vintage ephemera, collage style reminiscent of Regency or Victorian scrapbooks and diaries.
